| The
Anchorage Lion's Club partnered with Covenant House Alaska on the
golf course to raise money for our kids in this year's 16th Annual
Lions Club Golf Tournament.
We
enjoyed a full tournament with 165 players and 33 teams. In addition
to the tournament itself, a raffle was started this year. The prizes
were a Mercury inflatable boat with a motor, a Polaris Jet Ski and
$500 cash. The raffle ticket sales combined with corporate sponsors,
prize donors, a small army of volunteers and local businesses contributing
in-kind donations made this event an outstanding success that raised
over $50,000.
Specifically,
an extra special THANK YOU goes to GCI.
Not only did GCI come through with a check as the tournament underwriter,
they were also represented by 9 teams with each player paying $75
to participate. Thank you to Tony Lewkowski, CHA Board member and
GCI VP of Operations, for his role in raising both money and teams
for the tournament.
The
entire proceeds benefit Covenant House and are used to support our
programs for homeless and runaway youth. Our deepest thanks to all
the players, Lions, volunteers, and sponsors who helped make the
tournament such an incredible success! Thank
you for helping our kids. We hope to see you again
next year.
