14th Annual Lions Club Golf Tournament

for Covenant House Alaska Exceeds all Expectations

The massive peaks of the Matanuska Valley surrounded the Palmer Golf Course on a stunning summer day as the Friends of Covenant House Golf Team brought home the winning score at the 14th Annual Anchorage Lions Club Golf Tournament.

This year 144 players donated seventy-five dollars each to play 18 holes of golf to help the Lions raise funds in support of our kids. 100% of the proceeds of the annual tournament are provided to Covenant House to help us meet the needs of homeless and runaway youth in Alaska.

Thanks to the generous support of our many corporate sponsors, this year’s tournament was our most successful ever. On October 5th The Anchorage Lions Club presented a $30,000.00 check to Executive Director Deirdre Phayer and Chairman of the Board George Findling at a Thank You Luncheon held at our Crisis Center.

This event is truly a community wide effort, Twenty corporate sponsors, many prize donors, a small army of volunteers and local radio personalities Marcus and April from Magic 98.9 all came together to make this year’s event our most successful ever. Achieving the $30,000.00 mark this year represents a $10,000.00 increase over last year.

GCI made an outstanding contribution as Tournament Underwriter by donating $5,000.00 and providing five teams of golfers for the event. GCI Vice President of Operations Tony Lewkowski deserves a special thank you for his efforts to take the tournament to a new level. Tony not only helped raise money and teams but was also our grill master for the day. Tony cooked several hundred hamburgers for hungry golfers at the picnic, which was sponsored by Food Services of America. Our heartfelt thanks go out to all of our volunteers and sponsors who helped to make the tournament such a wonderful success.
