Denali
Kid Care Rally
 |
| February 24, 2002 |
This weekend the kids participated
in a rally to show their support for Denali Kid Care. A bill
has been introduced that would severely decrease funding for
this program that affords health care to medically indigent
youth.
Covenant House Alaska has secured information from Denali Kid
Care regarding the specific effect of a rollback of the coverage
level from 200% to 150% of poverty level on our specific client
population, namely teens 13-19 years old. The information received
indicates that 3316 teenagers statewide will lose their coverage
if the rollback is introduced. For this reason alone, Covenant
House Alaska opposes the rollback.
Covenant House Alaska champions better health and living conditions
for all teens, but especially for homeless and at risk kids.
Removing affordable health coverage availability from uninsured,
working single parent and moderate-income families will do nothing
to help our kids in Alaska and will only worsen the situation
of the kids at Covenant House. |
