Health Services
Life on the streets makes youth highly susceptible to a wide variety of illnesses and injuries. To provide the care these youth need, Covenant House Alaska (CHA) offers free health services through the Crisis Center and Community Services Center.

Crisis Center Health Services
Youth at the Crisis Center are asked to complete a health history form and get a basic check-up from our nurse practitioner upon admission. From this information, our nurse practitioner then develops a medical care plan, which is integrated into the youth's case plan.

Services available to youth at the Crisis Center include:

  • On-call nurse practitioner 24 hours a day
  • Evaluation and treatment of minor illnesses and injuries
  • Physicals for work, school and special programs
  • Immunizations
  • PPDs (tuberculosis skin tests)
  • Assistance with applying for Medicaid or Denali Kid Care
  • Referrals for community health services

Community Service Center Health Services
CHA operates a free, walk-in medical clinic at the Community Services Center Monday through Friday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Services available at the clinic include:

  • Physicals for work, school or special programs
  • Treatment of minorillnesses or injuries
  • Immunizations
  • Assistance with obtaining medications
  • Referrals for community health services
