Volunteer Opportunities
There are countless opportunities for people who wish to support Covenant House Alaska (CHA) with a gift of time and talents. We’ve listed a few opportunities for individuals and groups below. We are also happy to discuss your schedule, interests, skills and talents in order to find the best volunteer experience for you.
Individual volunteer opportunities include:
- Clerical. Be the first person to greet youth seeking services at CHA. Answer phone calls, distribute sack lunches and provide information.
- Food Service. Serve lunch and dinner to our youth. Lunch volunteers needed from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. Dinner volunteers needed 4:30 – 6 p.m.
- Pastoral Ministry. Work with CHA staff to provide positive, spiritual activities for youth.
- Crisis Center . Assist staff in supervising and interacting with youth staying in our shelter.
- Outreach. Travel the streets on foot, bike or van to provide food, clothing, information and hope to homeless youth.
- Recreation. Facilitate and supervise healthy activities, such as arts and crafts, games and outings, for our youth.
- Mentoring. Provide guidance and be a positive role model by becoming a mentor to one of our Transitional Living Program residents.
Group volunteer opportunities include:
- Throw A Seasonal Celebration. Work with our staff to plan a special event for CHA youth.
- Youth Group Opportunities. While youth under 21 cannot interact directly with CHA youth, they can get involved by organizing a collection drive or participating in a service project.
